About Headmagnet
Forget something?
Have you ever crammed for an exam, only to forget everything only a few weeks later? Ever learned someone's name but forget it after a few months of not seeing them?
The fact is that people forget things and that human memory of facts decays with time. Unless you review the material, you will eventually forget it.
The good news is that if you review materials at longer intervals, you have a much better chance of remembering it later, and will need to spend less and less time maintaining it as the memory decays more slowly.
Get facts into your head, and keep them there!
Headmagnet is a learning tool that helps you to memorize new facts quickly and maintain what you have learned. Headmagnet helps you to predict when you will forget things, so that you can review only what you need to.
With Headmagnet, you can create your own lists of things to remember and learn them in a variety of modes which you can easily customize and create.
In your study sessions, you can set the focus on learning new items, or reviewing old items.
Headmagnet shows you a gauge of the memory strength of the topics that you want to keep track of, so that you know what's in your head, and what is slipping away.
Get facts into others' heads
Headmagnet allows you to share your lists with other learners, and learn what others have shared. You can subscribe to their shared lists, so that if they add or change any items, these items will automatically come up when you focus your study sessions on learning new items.
Rather than having to manually enter items on your own, you can search for shared lists of items that others have created. You can also import external lists from Excel or CSV formats, and export them for offline use.
Principles
Headmagnet is based on research on memory, learning, and cognition. It models a learner's memory using the ACT-R cognitive architecture, which was mainly developed by John R. Anderson at Carnegie Mellon University.
As users generate more data on how they learn, we can improve the system to be more accurate to help you study more effectively.
